This book was designed with the main purpose of teaching English at Fourth Level. It
is focused on the four skills (listening¸ reading, speaking and writing). Besides, this book also has vocabulary strategies as a way to increase students’ communicative competences.

Taking into account that learning languages has become important for people to know
about culture, technology and some other things it is relevant to say that English is one of those languages that allows people to get informed about what is happening on these
days, it is also important to state that English provides people to access to the new world offering opportunities to exchange ideas and knowledge with other people outside of our country.

Regarding that many countries are interested in the teaching and learning of English, a
country that we should take into discussion is Colombia. Nowadays people in Colombia
are becoming competent. That is one of the most important reasons to acquire
communicative competences.
According to “Ley General de Educación 115”, it has been established to teach
a foreign language in all universities. (Ley General de Educación 1999).

It is known that English has become a very important subject to take into account. Due
to the fact that the universities are working with one end in common; and it is to offer
to student the opportunity to improve their level of English. But some of our students´
beliefs are that English is just a requirement to graduate, they also think that English is a difficult subject. They mean “a difficult task to work on”. They always think that the only one who is allowed to use the language during classes is the teacher.
The reasons for me to propose the English book is to improve in students their level of
English are:
- It will make students feel confident while speaking.
- It will provide students with many opportunities to interact with others.
- It will offer students exposure to real language expressions.

It is also important to say that in universities and inside of the society reading and writing habits are decreasing. This book was written as a way to help students to overcome that problem. It brings activities to help students acquire reading and writing habits.
